Schools receive donation from local community

Hopewell City Public Schools is continually amazed by the generosity of this community. Before the start of school members of the church and business communities came to the School Board Office, on August 29, to drop off hundreds of school supplies for the students of this city.

As cars pulled up to the doors Dr. Melody Hackney, Superintendent of Hopewell City Public Schools, came out to help unload all the supplies, a constant smile on her face as she exclaimed, “It’s like Christmas for our babies.”

Eight churches in the area including Family of God Church, Rivermont Presbyterian, Church of the Brethren, First Presbyterian, First Christian Church, Arlington Road First Christian Church, St. John's Episcopal, and Charity-Korean American Baptist Church, along with members of the business community, Custom Embroidery and Design, Hopewell Suntrust Bank, Partin Preferred Properties, and John Randolph Foundation contributed school supplies and donations to the schools in Hopewell.

During the drop-off, which included boxes and boxes of school supplies, everything from folders to backpacks and pens galore, Charity Korean-American Baptist Church presented HCPS with a $1,000 check, in addition to their donation of more than a couple hundred dollars in supplies. John Randolph Foundation also provided a donation of a $1,000 community contribution grant.

Johnny Partin, who help to spearhead the donation for the schools, said the donations this year surpassed their goal by over 15 percent. In total, $6,950 were given to the schools in donations and supplies, with $4,600 in supply donations and $2,350 in cash donations.

We, at Hopewell City Public Schools, cannot express how grateful we are to the people of this community and beyond.
