Encourage your children to use the following strategies when taking the Reading SOL tests.
• Read and re-read the passage.

Make sure you understand the passage.
•
Read and re-read the question.
• Circle key words in the question.
•
Go back to the passage (skim and re-read) to find the answer to the question.
• In the passage, highlight the information that helps you answer the question.
• Use "slash the trash" (process of elimination) in a SMART way.
•
Check over your work.
