Guidance Department PURPOSE

The Guidance Department of Hopewell High School is staffed with a Guidance Director, who also serves as a Counselor, three other Counselors, and a Guidance Secretary. The counselors help students, administrators, teachers, and parents in a variety of ways.

Counselors are specifically trained to assist in individual and group counseling. However, they are also responsible for the coordination of guidance and counseling, student assessment, SOL testing, vocational and educational planning, staff consultation, referral services, and evaluation of the guidance program.

The Counselors are specially trained to help students realize their fullest potential as unique individuals. They provide experiences and opportunities to help students develop wholesome, healthy attitudes and to become productive members of society.

The Guidance Department is responsible for collecting, recording, filing and interpreting data on students which include their interests, aptitudes, and abilities.
