School Board Update: 2012-13 Organizational Meeting

 July begins the new school year here at Hopewell City Public Schools. It is the new year for the School Board as well, and this meeting occurs annually to appoint officers and make committee assignments for the board.
Dr. William C. Henry was unanimously re-elected as the School Board Chairman, and Mr. Christopher G. Reber will remain the Board’s Vice Chair.
The Hopewell City School Board also determined the following duties and committee assignments:
Mr. S. Ray Watson was reappointed as the Clerk of the Board and Mrs. Melody Bage as the Deputy Clerk.
Mr. Watson was also appointed as the Designee of the Superintendent in the absence of the Superintendent.
Dr. Henry will be the voting delegate to the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) Delegate Assembly and Regional Meeting of the 2012 VSBA/VASS Annual Convention, and Mr. Reber will be the school divisions alternate.
Mrs. Shirl A. Jefferson will represent the Hopewell City Public Schools Board representative to the Appomattox Regional Governors School and Dr. Deborah E. Marks will be the alternate.
Dr. Henry and Mr. Larry T. Joyner will serve as the Hopewell City School Board representatives on the City/School Construction Committee.
The School Board also changed the night of the regularly scheduled school board meetings. Board meetings will be on the second Thursday of the month unless otherwise noted. Please see the division calendar on our website for a complete list of School Board Meetings.
Plan to start the school year right by attending the first regular meeting of the year. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Thursday, July 19th. The early session will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the regular session at 7:30 p.m. |
