Welcome |
Hopewell is a small but very diverse industrial city located twenty miles southeast of Richmond at the confluence of the James and Appomattox Rivers. Our school division has a rich history and tradition well known across southside Virginia.
Out of that tradition, exciting and innovative educational activities abound in our schools everyday. Our school division serves approximately 3900 students with a staff of more than 600 employees. Public education has existed continuously in the Hopewell community for 100 years. Our community takes great pride in its schools. That pride is evident any time you visit any of our buildings. |
Rich in HistorySettled in 1613, Hopewell celebrates a rich history. Appomattox Plantation at City Point was built in 1763. During the Civil War, General Ulysses S. Grant directed the Siege of Petersburg from the grounds of this historic home. Weston Manor, an elegant 18th-century plantation home, overlooks the Appomattox River. Its guided tour includes three floors furnished in period antiques and reproductions. Hopewell is also the gateway to Virginia’s historic James River Plantations, Berkeley and Shirley. |

From the Revolution to the Persian Gulf, America's secret weapon is the one that keeps soldiers supplied with food, water, clothing, fuel, shelter and other things they can't survive combat without.
