Wellness Clinic

Central Virginia Health Services & Hopewell City Public Schools have developed a School-Based Health Center (SBHC) in collaboration with public health agencies, local health care providers including Conexus, community organizations, and private foundations.

A school-based health center is a partnership between a community’s schools and healthcare organizations with the purpose of providing preventative care and treatment services in school, which is where students spend a great amount of their time. This new School-Based Health Center (SBHC) will be located at Hopewell High School.

Former Principal, Dr. Poe stated, “this is a dream come true for me because it meets kid’s needs right in here in school. It’s the same reason we do the food closet, the clothing closet, because it’s about the kid’s needs that can make them successful. Research shows if you have a school-based clinic your attendance and graduation rate improve.”

CVHS is happy to partner with Hopewell City Public Schools, the John Randolph Foundation, and Cameron Foundation to help improve health outcomes for students and families in Hopewell. Is to help improve the health, well-being, and academic success of students in Hopewell, VA. The SBHC will provide medical care, behavioral health, and vision services to students. The SBHC can be the students’ Primary Care Provider (PCP) or students who already have a health care provider, but want to be seen at the SBHC because it is more convenient are encouraged to do so. The SBHC will gladly forward any medical records to the student’s PCP the same as any other medical practice.

Parental consent will be required for anything State Law requires parental consent. Students can receive family health planning, birth control, and STD treatment at the clinic without parental consent. Hours of operation will be the same as school hours, but eventually the plan is to stay open later so community members will be able to utilize the clinic as a resource.
