What is CTE and what are the Benefits?

WHY IS CTE IMPORTANT?

With new technology, rapidly shifting job markets, and the widening gap between the skills that employers need and the skills the workforce currently possesses, CTE makes perfect sense! Click the link to learn how Career Technical Education (CTE) prepares students to be marketable for current jobs and those that have not been created yet.

CTE PROGRAMS allow students to explore different career options, discover their passions, and leave high school with a clearer picture of what comes next!

CTE programs are designed to contribute to the broad educational achievement of students, including the development of academic, technical, and work readiness skills, specifically the abilities to work independently and as part of a team, think creatively, solve problems, and utilize technology. Students who complete CTE programs are prepared for a successful transition into one or more of the three E’s: Enrolled in the college of their choice, Enlisted in the military, or Employed in a career for which they’ve trained.

CTE Features:

  • Hands-on, career- connected learning
  • Authentic problem-solving
  • Industry partnerships
  • Early career exposure through work-based learning experiences

 CTE Advantages:

  • CTE programs allow students to earn cost-free industry certifications.  Certifications provide students with a competitive advantage over their job-seeking peers after graduation. CTE offers the skills training needed to pass certification exams and covers the costs associated with the exam, saving parents thousands of dollars.
  • CTE programs give students the opportunity to connect with potential employers.
Students meet industry professionals who can help with their future career goals.  They also participate in work-based learning activities and field trips.
  • CTE offers a cost-free post-secondary preparation program. CTE programs not only allow students to earn college credits while in high school through dual and concurrent enrollment, but can reduce the overall cost of post-secondary education because students can earn college credits for the CTE coursework completed in high school. Check out the dual & concurrent enrollment progams!
  • CTE is STEM. CTE programs incorporate science, technology, engineering and math.
  • CTE provides students with transferable skills. These vital skills are necessary both in the workforce and in post-secondary education (communication, critical thinking, computer skills, teamwork etc.).

Now, more than ever, CTE is the smart choice for a sustainable and successful future.

With technological advances rapidly changing our world, we are more aware of CTE’s value in providing a skilled workforce.  CTE offers many programs that prepare HCPS  high school students for careers in high demand fields.
