Positive Case at HHS Leads to Close of Building Friday - Monday

Dear Hopewell City Public Schools Families,

We want to continue to keep you informed when we have a positive COVID case in one of our buildings so that you can be as informed as possible for your health and safety.

This afternoon we learned of a Hopewell High School staff member testing positive for COVID.  It is also the case through our investigation that quite a few other staff members will need to quarantine.  As a result, Hopewell High School will be closed through Monday in order for us to conduct a thorough cleaning and additional monitoring of the cases.  We will make a determination on Monday if the school will be able to re-open on Wednesday after the Tuesday holiday.

All in-person learning, SOL testing, and any other activities for which students would be coming to the building are cancelled.  Virtual learning will replace the in-person learning that was occurring for those designated students.  We will look to offer new dates for the students who were to be taking SOL tests on Friday and Monday.

While we are required to maintain confidentiality related to health matters with individuals, we can share that those who need to quarantine do not involve any of our students who have been in the building nor the teachers and staff working directly with them.

We encourage anyone who interacted with Hopewell HS staff this week to monitor their symptoms and reach out to their primary care provider if they have any concerns.  Individuals can also contact the Crater Health District's COVID-19 hotline at 804-862-8989.  If any individuals are identified through the contact tracing process, they will be contacted directly by the health department.

The health and safety of our students, staff, families, and community is our top priority.  We continue to work in close collaboration with Hopewell City and the health department to serve the well-being of the Hopewell community.  Please keep the health of these individuals and our community in your thoughts.  If you have any questions, please let us know.
