A Message From Our Superintendent Regarding COVID Updates

Dear Family and Friends of HCPS,

Thank you for your love, support and grace as we work diligently to investigate each and every COVID case in our district. We appreciate and are reading all emails, social media posts and other communications from concerned families and citizens.

More cases have been reported today, and our dashboard will be updated every evening as each case is investigated and contact tracing is completed. Please rest assured we are being completely transparent with all information. We are in constant collaboration with local health officials and are following or exceeding all relevant guidance from the Virginia Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control, both for mitigating risks in all of our schools, as well as recommended protocols for identifying cases, notifying close contacts and reporting this information publicly.

We promise to keep you informed every step of the way and give you all the grace and respect you need to make the right decisions for your children. We are working almost around the clock to respond to case reports as well as expand suitable instructional options for our families who prefer not to send their children in-person for instruction for the time being. We are building out additional instructional programming options right now, and ask for understanding and patience as we do this as quickly as we can.

In the meantime, thank you as always for your support and partnership.  We are doing the very best we can under these circumstances. Community transmission in our city is very high; and while we would like to believe that we can completely prevent transmission in school, we know that this is not completely possible.  We will continue to do everything in our power to layer all recommended and best practices in reducing the risk of transmission at school. In the interim, we will honor and respect whatever decisions you make for the students in your care. Additionally, we will provide daily updates from the central office to keep you informed on all HCPS social media outlets.
