Hopewell Public Schools maintains a commitment to providing the full continuum of special education and pupil personnel services that ensures access to and participation in programs and activities that are age appropriate and meets the educational needs of all students with identified disabilities.

 

Hopewell Public Schools adheres to both the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA 2004) and the Virginia State Regulations Governing Special Education Programs for Students With Disabilities (VA REGS) when establishing programs and supporting decisions that will guide the educational paths for students with disabilities.

Based upon eligibility, students with disabilities may be served under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/504faq.html).   

 

  Code of Virginia Amendment: Faculty Identification for Secondary Transition

 

Pursuant to SB 943 and HB 1554, passed by the 2023 Session of the General Assembly, the Code of Virginia has been amended by adding section §22.1.217.3, relating to special education transition in public high schools. This amendment requires each public high school in the Commonwealth to publicly identify  the faculty member (Mr. Anthony Anderson) responsible for special education transition planning and coordination at such high school.
