Hopewell High School Update

Posted Date: 10/12/26 (01:10 PM)

Dear Hopewell High School Families and Community,

Today, Hopewell High School administration received a tip that a firearm may have been located inside a student vehicle on school property.

School Administrators, in partnership with our Supervisor of Security, responded immediately. The student was quickly located and brought to the office while administrators investigated the report. A search of the vehicle was conducted, and a firearm was located. Hopewell Police Department was notified and was on standby to take possession of the firearm.

While any report involving a firearm is serious, today demonstrated how our safety systems are intended to work:

  • A concern was reported quickly.
  • School leaders responded immediately.
  • The student was located and separated from the vehicle.
  • Established safety protocols were followed.
  • Law enforcement was engaged.
  • The firearm remained outside of the school building.

We are especially grateful to the individual who reported the concern. Speaking up when something does not seem right is one of the most important ways our students, staff, and families can help keep our schools safe.

Our school entry screening procedures also provide an important additional layer of protection by helping prevent weapons and other prohibited items from entering our buildings.

Thank you to our students, staff, security team, and law enforcement partners for helping us maintain a safe learning environment.
